Sweet Pea Programs

Sweet Peas is an educational gymnastics program designed to promote physical, social and cognitive development in children 6 months to 6 years old.

Here are the classes broken down by age.

Wee Peas - 6 to 12 Months

Carefully designed for babies learning to sit and crawl, the Wee Peas program provides our littlest scooters with activities focusing on whole baby development. Wee Peas move, reach, and grasp in a baby-safe environment rich with color, sound, and tactile experiences. Your Wee Pea will learn to recognize their name in class and react in identifying themselves to their teacher during activities that encourage visual tracking, core strength, and the balance needed for sitting and standing.

Wee Peas are in the golden first 12 months of life, and you will see amazing miracles taking place!

Movement primes Wee Peas for learning, and the Strengthflex Sweet Peas Educational Gymnastics program is designed to provide fun and developmental activities in a learning environment.

Movement that involves crossing the midline (moving the body – including hands, arms, feet, and legs – across an imaginary line that runs vertically down the center of the body) encourages cognitive function. Movements include passing an object, like a ball, from the right to the left hand or using the right foot to step over the left foot. These movements work both sides of the body in a balanced way and require coordinating movement of the eyes, ears, and hands and/or feet.

The Wee Pea curriculum includes activities such as grip strength and hand coordination when grasping and releasing objects. Wee Peas work on the bilateral awareness needed for crawling and walking, special awareness, and positional comfort through rolling and inversion exercises. Plus, Wee Peas enjoy some of their earliest experiences in playing and interacting with other babies, gaining social awareness, and even making friends!

One Peas - 1 Year Old

With their newly developed upright mobility, One Peas are ready to move and explore! They are beginning to understand words and ideas, and the active learning goals of the One Pea program promotes neural development in the one-year-old brain. One Peas are ready to learn self-awareness and developmentally appropriate gymnastics activities, such as stepping, rolling, balancing, sliding, and swinging. The One Pea program is designed to enhance the direct connection between active movement and brain processing.

Learn More

One Pea curriculum is designed to provide enriching activities in a safe and fun environment, and One Peas are ready to learn baby rhythm and sequencing through activities using music and prompts, plus learning to clap, step, count, stop and start, and repeat.

One Peas will begin to recognize and even anticipate routines in the One Pea lesson plans. They are remembering what they have learned and are excited to participate. The One Pea program enhances the direct connection between active movement and brain processing, such as when they are walking in a circle and scooting across the beam, rolling on the wedge mat, bouncing on the springboard, swinging on the rings, climbing through tunnels, and hanging from the bars.

Gymnastics provides opportunities to work on balance, holding and reaching, gripping and bouncing. One Peas are learning and growing at an amazing pace as they transition from baby to toddler. What a magical year for your One Pea!

Two Peas - 2 Year Olds

Pea program offers opportunities to develop gross motor skills, using whole body activities in age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate activities. Two Peas learn to run, step, hold, and balance on alternate feet, roll forward, sideways and backwards on a wedge with a spot, and transfer weight from feet to hands and back again. The Two Pea program is designed to provide a multi-sensory educational experience, with sound, color, shapes, and patterns.

Learn More

In the Two Pea program, your child will play interactively structured games, sing and perform physical motions to songs, and are introduced to the concepts of recognition, compare and contrast, and the use of basic shapes utilizing the equipment used in class.

Two Peas begin to recognize colors using the materials and activities in class, can begin to recite numbers through counting and listing while performing physical activities, and increase their language development through activities that promote word association. This curriculum engages your little ones’ temporal and front lobes, promoting higher cognitive processing through language, words, and tone.

Children learn best when they are moving, and the more regions of the brain we can engage through learning, the more significant the impact on learning will be. Two-year-olds are amazing and are gaining independence! This program is designed to capitalize on the rapidly improving physical, cognitive, and language development of two-year-olds through fun, quality gymnastics activities.

Three Peas - 3 Year Olds

The Three Pea program is designed to provide skill development on the floor, bean bars, and vault, using their increasing motor development, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. They are also quickly advancing their language skills and are able to understand and follow basic instructions in class. Three Peas are introduced to instructions that incorporate special, sequential, and directional cues, continuing to understand the differences of shape, color, and size. The Three Pea program is also preparing Three Peas for more independent activities.

Their increasing coordination makes them fast and move deliberate, and their increasing strength makes them able to perform many new gymnastics skills.

In the Four Pea program, your child will work on keeping straighter legs and using longer holds in the execution of their skills. They work on balance with skills on the beam, such as straight jumps, alternating kick posse sequences, and arabesques. Four Peas gain accuracy and speed on the vault, and are masting their squat on, donkey kicks with horizontal hops, and jumping on and off a block.

The educational focus for Four Peas continues with number and letter recognition, group counting, group singing, increased differentiation of left and right, plus positive peer interactions and increased independence.

Four Peas are preparing for kindergarten, and the Four Pea program provides a fun, educational environment where children can experience active and balanced learning, predictable structure, and successful independence from parents.
